Viva Ruiz is many things: an artist, a creator, queer, Catholic, and proud to have had two abortions. Thank God for Abortion is the organization Ruiz created in 2015 after abortion clinics nationwide were shuttering due to bureaucratic minefields such as TRAP laws. Her organization created a float to be part of 2018’s NYC Pride parade on June 24, which highlighted the need for access to abortion within the queer community. Produced for The Root and Jezebel.

In 2015-2016 I worked for the NY1 program Potluck TV, which toured the various food and drink delights of New York City from social issues surrounding food to killer whiskies distilled in a warehouse in Brooklyn. All pieces were produced, shot, and edited by me for Potluck TV, which aired on NY1, Taxi Cabs, and streamed online.
In 2014 I worked with the start up Maker’s Row, which connects American manufacturers and American makers, to create promotional and educational materials for this widely unknown sector of our domestic industry. The result was fascinating lessons learned from American designers and makers who are passionate about keeping production local and high quality as well as getting inside looks at American factories that are still going after decades of operations.
