Quartz News: K-pop

This episode of Quartz News on Facebook Watch opens with EXP Edition, a K-pop group with no Korean members, and uses them to ask how K-pop became a global formula that anyone can follow. It looks at why 2018 and 2019 became the years the genre broke through worldwide.

K-pop had already built huge audiences across Asia and Latin America, but the U.S. was harder to reach, since English-language pop usually travels outward and rarely the other way around. Through interviews with EXP Edition, UCLA professor Suk-Young Kim, BTS producer Jordan Young (aka DJ Swivel) and an organizer of KCON, the episode explains how K-pop finally crossed into the American mainstream.

My contribution: I produced, scripted and shot the episode, and I appeared on camera as its hosts.

I booked and interviewed a range of voices, from artists and academics to the people behind the music and the fan conventions. Then I shaped their interviews into a clear story about how K-pop built its global following, and wrote the companion article for Quartz.

My goal was to explain an industry many viewers knew only through its biggest stars and show them the strategy that made those stars possible.

Vote Save America: Down Ballot Series

Breaking Down the Ballot is a three-part series made for the 2022 midterms. It explains the down-ballot races that quietly decide abortion rights, election security, and even who certifies a presidential election.

Each episode covers one office. Strict Scrutiny's Melissa Murray explains the role of state attorneys general, What A Day's Priyanka Aribindi explains the growing power of state legislatures, and a third episode, narrated by me, covers secretaries of state.

Along the way, viewers hear from officials and candidates in key swing states, including Michigan AG Dana Nessel, Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold and Arizona AG Kris Mayes.

The result is a clear, fast-moving civics lesson with a call to action: fill out your entire ballot.

My contribution: I pitched and built this series as a passion project on top of my role as video producer for Pod Save America and Pod Save the World. I wanted to give voters clear, easy-to-follow information on the races that rarely get airtime.

I wrote, shot, produced and edited all three episodes, bringing together ten officials and candidates across seven states with help from States Win (formerly known as Sister District Project).

I built each episode around one office, so viewers could quickly understand what the job does and why their vote for it matters. My focus was turning dry election mechanics into something urgent, clear and even a little funny.

Crooked Media: "Crooked History" Series

This episode of Crooked History traces Vladimir Putin's rise to power and the path that led to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. It's hosted by Ben Rhodes, co-host of Pod Save the World and former U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor. Rhodes's narration, archival footage and original motion graphics give viewers the historical context behind a war that was still unfolding. The episode came out in the first months of the invasion and has since passed 140,000 views on YouTube.

My contribution: I took over the franchise for this episode, and I wrote, shot, edited and produced it. I researched and wrote a script that condensed decades of Russian history into a clear, 19-minute narrative built around Rhodes's firsthand perspective. I filmed his segments and cut the episode. I also designed and built many of the motion graphics myself. My focus was making a complex geopolitical history easy to follow for an audience looking for reliable information in a fast-moving news moment.

Quartz News: Insta-surgery

This episode of Quartz News looks at the rise of cosmetic surgery on social media, where surgeons build huge followings by posting procedures and results, and patients often find their doctor through a feed instead of a referral.

In the operating room with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Barrett, viewers see a breast augmentation alongside his team's real-time social media capture of it. The episode also hears from board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Lara Devgan, influencer Joey Zauzig, and the owner of Facile Skin, a new kind of cosmetic clinic that holds itself to higher standards than a med spa without being a doctor's office. Together, they show how Instagram is changing who patients trust and the risks that come with that shift.

My contribution: I produced, scripted and shot the episode, and I appeared on camera as its host. I reported on both coasts, traveling to Los Angeles and conducting interviews in New York. I also wrote the video’s accompanying article for Quartz.

I earned the access to observe and film a live procedure and the social media production happening around it.

I shaped the interviews into a story that shows both the appeal of Instagram-famous surgery and the pitfalls that can follow. My goal was to take a trend many viewers scroll past every day and show them what's really behind it.

Quartz News: Inclusive Fashion

For decades, fashion designed for one narrow ideal of body: thin, young and white. This episode of Quartz News, hosted by Quartz fashion reporter Marc Bain, shows how that's finally changing and why inclusive design is becoming the future of both runways and retail.

The episode features Chromat designer Becca McCharen-Tran, fashion influencer Kellie Brown, Eloquii CEO Mariah Chase, Universal Standard co-founders Alex Waldman and Polina Veksler, and a trend forecaster from WGSN. Together, they explain how brands that dress every body are reshaping the industry, from casting to sizing to the bottom line.

My contribution: I produced, scripted and shot the episode. I booked and interviewed a range of voices across New York's fashion world, including designers, founders, an influencer and a forecaster, and built the story around Marc's reporting. I shaped their perspectives into a clear case for where the industry is heading and why. I also wrote the accompanying article for Quartz.

My goal was to show inclusive fashion as a business shift already underway, not a passing trend.

A Bit of Optimism Podcast

A Bit of Optimism is Simon Sinek's video podcast, a weekly conversation with thinkers, leaders and experts about the ideas that help people live and work better. Episodes cover topics from AI and generational change to mental strength and human connection. Every guest brings something practical and hopeful to take away. The show reaches audiences across YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and social media, and several recent episodes have passed 300,000 views on YouTube alone.

My contribution: I joined as senior producer in October 2025 and oversee each episode from start to finish. I research and pitch guests to Simon, build the prep materials he takes into each conversation, and shape the edit to keep the guest's story at the center.

I also package every episode for release, writing intro scripts in Simon's voice along with titles, thumbnail copy and descriptions, and I choose the moments that become social clips.

My goal is simple: episodes people finish, remember and share.

Pod Save the World: "Rhodes Map" Series

Rhodes Map is a YouTube original series from Pod Save the World that works as a foreign policy 101 for longtime fans and new audiences alike.

In each episode, host Ben Rhodes, former Deputy National Security Advisor to President Obama, and Pod Save the World producer Alyona Minkovski pick apart one institution or idea behind the day's news. Topics include how the United Nations works, how presidential transitions pass the foreign policy baton, what the rules-based international order is, how the IOC picks Olympic host cities, and how changes to the U.S. military could erode public trust.

Ben's firsthand stories from the Obama White House ground each topic, and some episodes end with a game that recasts pop culture headlines as foreign policy.

My contribution: I developed the series with the Senior Podcast Producer and Host, and I co-wrote each episode's script with them. I produced and edited the series, sometimes alongside freelance editors. I built each episode around a single question, so viewers could leave understanding one piece of the world a little better. My goal was to make foreign policy approachable and fun, without dumbing it down.

Quartz News: The Future of Meat

Cell-cultured meat is grown from animal cells instead of raised and slaughtered, and its backers call it slaughter-free, antibiotic-free and better for the planet. This episode of Quartz News asks whether it's ready for the mainstream.

The episode goes inside JUST with CEO Josh Tetrick and Vítor Espírito Santo, where a lab-grown chicken nugget gets a taste test on camera. It also hears from Quartz food reporter Chase Purdy, Jessica Almy of the Good Food Institute, and the director of government affairs at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. Together, they cover the science, the regulatory fight over what can be called "meat," and what it would take to put cultured meat on dinner tables.

My contribution: I produced, scripted and shot the episode, and I hosted it on camera. I booked and interviewed voices from every side of the debate, from startup founders and food policy advocates to the traditional beef industry.

Then I shaped their perspectives into a balanced look at a technology that could reshape the food system. I also wrote the companion article for Quartz. My goal was to make a complex, futuristic topic feel concrete, starting with a single bite.

WWD: Paul Smith

In 1970, Paul Smith opened a tiny shop in Nottingham. Fifty years later, he runs one of fashion's last great independent brands, with stores around the world and a reputation for "classic with a twist."

In this WWD video, Smith opens the doors to his Covent Garden studio, a joyful clutter of books, art, toys and cycling jerseys, and reflects on five decades in fashion. He talks about his start, turning down offers to sell, and the curiosity that still gets him to the office before dawn. It's a portrait of a designer whose personality is stitched into everything his company makes.

My contribution: I produced, scripted and edited the piece as part of WWD's coverage of Smith's 50th anniversary. I shaped the interview and studio footage into a story that moves from the objects around him to the career behind them, letting his warmth and humor lead.

My goal was to capture what makes Smith singular, and show why his independence and point of view have lasted half a century.

WWD: Decoding RBG's Collars

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg once pointed out that the standard judicial robe was made for a man's shirt and tie, so she and Justice Sandra Day O'Connor added something of their own: the collar.

This WWD video explores the story behind Ginsburg's jabots and how she turned them into a quiet language from the bench, with collars for reading majority opinions and a glittering "dissent collar" for days she disagreed. Made shortly after her death in 2020, the piece shows how a small accessory became one of the most recognizable symbols of her legacy.

My contribution: I wrote, voiced, produced and edited the piece. I researched the history behind her most iconic collars and built the story around what each one signaled. I paired archival images with narration to decode a wardrobe choice that was as intentional as her opinions. My goal was to use fashion as a way into her legacy, showing how Ginsburg used even her clothes to make a point.

Pod Save the World: 2024 Election Series

Ahead of the 2024 presidential election, Pod Save the World released a four-part audio and video series on what a Harris or Trump victory would mean for the rest of the world.

Narrated by host Ben Rhodes, each episode took on one high-stakes issue: the future of global democracy, the war in Ukraine, the widening conflict in the Middle East, and the U.S.–China rivalry.

The series brought together voices from across politics, government and journalism, including Senator Chris Murphy, USAID Administrator Samantha Power, U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai, Peter Beinart, Rula Jebreal, and Ukrainian journalist Illia Ponomarenko. Together, they made the case that foreign policy was on the ballot.

My contribution: I led production and post-production for the video series, a large collaborative effort across the Pod Save the World team. I turned narration and more than a dozen interviews with officials, experts and journalists into four cohesive episodes, each built around one clear question about America's role in the world.

My goal was to take complicated global stakes and make them feel immediate to voters in the final stretch before the election.

Taste Curators x St Agrestis

The Taste Curators is a video series about how we're all connected through food and design, created by food stylist Lish Steiling and Abbey Cook.

In its first episode, the duo visits St. Agrestis co-founder Louie Catizone to learn how the company makes its Italian-style amaro by hand in Brooklyn. The seven-minute episode moves from the botanicals in the bottle to the people and craft behind the brand, and sets the warm, curious tone for the series that follows.

My contribution: As the brand's launch episode, this set the look and feel for everything after it.

I designed the visual style for the new Taste Curators brand, and I worked closely with the founders to define a tone and format that could carry future episodes. I scripted and edited the episode and created its motion graphics.

My goal was to give a brand-new series a distinctive, polished identity from day one.

Pod Save the World: Malala Yousafzai

Ben Rhodes is joined by Nobel Peace Prize winner and women's rights activist Malala Yousafzai, and director Sahra Mani to talk about their new documentary "Bread & Roses".

Production and post-production.

WWD: How a Drugstore Brand Went Viral

CeraVe was never a flashy brand. Before the pandemic, it was a no-frills drugstore staple that dermatologists recommended. Then in 2020, it started selling out in stores around the world.

This WWD video traces that unlikely rise back to TikTok, where skincare creators turned a sensible cleanser into a must-have for a new generation. It's a sharp look at how social media rewrote the rules of beauty marketing, and why authenticity can beat glamour.

My contribution: I researched, scripted, produced, shot and animated the video for WWD's main site and social channels. I tracked how CeraVe's popularity spread from dermatologists' offices to TikTok feeds, then built the story around that shift. I used original animation to make the data and timeline easy to follow.

My goal was to explain a viral moment as a business story, showing what brands could learn from it.

Simply Organic: Weekly Game Plan

Simply Organic wanted a fun, easy way to show home cooks how its Simmer Sauces fit into a busy week.

In Weekly Game Plan, chef Lish Steiling walks viewers through a full week of meals built around the sauces, with original recipes and practical tips for getting dinner on the table. Made for Simply Organic's website and social channels, the video mixes approachable cooking with polished, appetizing food styling.

My contribution: I served as director of photography and editor. Working alongside Lish and a team of food stylists, I shot the cooking and hero food shots so each dish looked as good as it tasted. In the edit, I paced the recipes into a quick, upbeat guide made for social feeds.

My goal was to make the product feel like the easy answer to "what's for dinner?"

Queen Elizabeth's Fashion Evolution

Queen Elizabeth II spent decades dressing with purpose, choosing bold colors so crowds could spot her and brooches that carried quiet messages.

In this WWD video, journalist and royal style expert Elizabeth Holmes, author of HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style, traces the Queen's transformation from young princess to global icon. She also shows how that playbook echoes in the fashion choices of Meghan Markle. The result is a fresh look at royal dressing as a strategy the family has passed down through generations.

My contribution: I researched, wrote, produced and edited the piece for WWD.com. I built the story around Holmes's expertise and paired her analysis with archival imagery that spans the Queen's decades on the throne. I structured the video to link past and present, so viewers could see each era's looks as part of one evolving strategy.

My goal was to make royal fashion history feel relevant to how the family dresses today.

WWD: Designing The Nutcracker

Every December, New York City Ballet's The Nutcracker brings sugarplum fairies, snowflakes and a towering Christmas tree to the stage, and hundreds of costumes make that magic possible.

In this episode of WWD's Making It, a series about how fashion and beauty's most iconic creations are made, NYCB costume director Marc Happel goes behind the seams of the famed production. He shows the craftsmanship, materials and upkeep it takes to keep a holiday classic dazzling year after year.

My contribution: I produce, script, often shoot, and edit Making It, which also runs in WWD's Digital Daily.

For this episode, I worked with accessories and features editor Misty White Sidell to go inside NYCB's costume shop with Happel. I shaped the story around the hands-on work behind the costumes, letting close-up details of the craft carry the viewer through the process.

My goal was to give a beloved tradition a new angle by showing the artistry most audiences never see.

WWD: Zandra Rhodes

I produced, scripted, and edited this piece starring Dame Zandra Rhodes. Dame Zandra Rhodes gave us an inside look at her creative process and 50-year career.
